Description
A female Northern Harrier soars above a field in mid-Missouri. Unlike other hawk species which usually hunt by eyesight alone from on high, or up on a high perch, Harriers hunt by both sight and sound and usually hunt low, soaring just above the grasses in a field or marsh. Their round facial feathers gather up sounds (like an owl) and direct it to their ears.
